City Council Public Comment

Public Comment Guidelines:

* Members of the public may address the City Council or Commissions during the Public Comment period.
* Each speaker is generally allotted up to three (3) minutes. Time limits may be adjusted at the discretion of the mayor or chair depending on the number of speakers and meeting needs.
* Speakers are encouraged to complete a voluntary speaker card (available on the back table) to assist staff in accurately recording names for the official meeting minutes.
* When the mayor or chair opens the public comment period, speakers should approach the podium, state their name for the record, and direct comments to the City Council or Commission as a whole.
* Comments must not be slanderous and must relate to matters within the jurisdiction of the City Council.
* Public Comment is not a question-and-answer period, and Council/Commission members generally do not respond to individual comments or engage in dialogue.

Correspondence received following the publishing of the agenda for the City Council's consideration prior to the meeting:

Pursuant to Government Code § 54957.5, if a writing that is a public record and relates to an agenda item for an open session of a regular meeting of the legislative body of a local agency, is distributed less than 72 hours prior to that meeting, the writing shall be made available for public inspection at the time the writing is distributed to all, or a majority of all, of the members of the body.
