Highway 50 Improvement Project

Highway 50 Update

With the coming of the new year, the Hwy. 50 improvements are starting to wind down and come to a close. The following items remain and are scheduled for the next few months.

Hwy. 50 Mainline

Signals: New signals have been installed at Canal and Spring Streets. The new signals at Bedford are schedule for mid-to-late February.

Final Paving: The final course of asphalt will not only be applied to the new eastbound auxiliary lane but also all the east- and westbound lanes of Hwy. 50 through the project area. Because paving is dependent upon warm and dry weather, this work will probably be one of the last items completed. Expect this work to occur at night in May.

Pedestrian Over-Crossing

Work is continuing on the pedestrian over-crossing at Bedford. The goal is to have it completed and open for use in March.

Bridges

The decks for bridges spanning the creek at Canal, Spring and Bedford are complete. Final paving of the approaches to each bridge will occur when the mainline Hwy. 50 is paved.

Decorative lighting for the three bridges is scheduled to be installed in mid-to-late February.

Placerville Drive/Main St. Connector

After a false start, the bridge connecting Placerville Drive and Lower Main is now open again. This was closed for a time in December because of weather and icy conditions. The City has taken over sanding the bridge and it should remain open. Please use caution when driving on the bridge during cold and icy conditions.
